What does Physical Rehabilitation do?

Physical rehabilitation helps increase the patient’s strength and mobility, decrease pain, aid in their proprioception (awareness of foot placement) and increase overall well-being. Physical rehabilitation is extremely important for recovery for post-operative patients. This is especially vital for patients with orthopedic and neurologic conditions. Studies have shown that physical rehab can help speed the return to function approximately 50% faster than without rehab and help reduce the severe muscle loss during post-surgery.

Rehabilitation Therapy

What pets can benefit from physical rehabilitation?

  • All surgery patients (especially orthopedic and neurologic)
  • Patients with degenerative neurologic and bony conditions (hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis, degenerative myopathy, IVDD)
  • Muscle and tendon strains
  • Weight loss
  • Cancer and general pain management
  • Athletic conditioning

The therapists and veterinarian at the PAW Center utilize rehabilitation therapy for a wide range of chronic problems including arthritis, hip dysplasia, spine and hind-end weakness, soft tissue strains, and weight loss. These modalities also can help improve the quality of life for cancer patients.
